How To Fix A Dell Ac Adapter

Most modern laptop computers come with multiple network adapters so that users can get online in more than one way. For example, many laptop models include both an ethernet and wireless adapter. When one of these adapters stops functioning properly, the Windows operating system can diagnose and fix the problem. In order to fix a laptop adapter, you must have administrative privileges on the computer.
Insert the tip of a flat-head screwdriver in the seam in the middle of the adapter box. This is the black rectangular box located halfway between the plug and AC adapter on the power cord.
Work your way around the adapter box with the flat-head screwdriver until the two halves become loose. Twist up at each corner with the screwdriver to pop the top half away from the bottom.
Cut down the length of the cable from the adapter box with your wire cutters. Be careful to cut just underneath the plastic cord without cutting the metal wire underneath. Be careful because this process is delicate.
Wrap electrical tape around the exposed metal wires and run more tape along the length of the cord over the slit. Replace the top half of the adapter box with the bottom and your Dell power cord should be fixed.
Right-click on the icon for the adapter you want to fix and choose the "Repair" option from the contextual menu. The Windows operating system will now scan the selected network adapter and fix any connection issue.
Remove the old plug from the power cord of the AC adapter about 3 inches from the end of the plug using a wire cutter. Use a wire-stripping tool to remove a 3-inch section of the plastic jacket from the end of the power cord so that the ends of the three cables inside the power cord are accessible.
Use a screwdriver to loosen the screws on each prong located at the back of the replacement plug. Position the white wire on the silver terminal and secure with the screw. Position the black wire on the gold terminal and secure with the screw. Position the green wire on the green terminal and secure with the screw.

Untie any knots if the cord has become knotted. Make sure that the connection where the cord meets the actual box adapter is still intact; this sometimes can become damaged and make a poor connection.
Run your equipment through a surge protecting power strip or, if necessary, a power conditioner. Audio and video equipment is especially susceptible to interference caused by ground looping. A power conditioner will smooth out the current and protect your equipment from any peaks or spikes in current.
